FOSTER FAMILY
WHAT IS FOSTER FAMILY
• Foster family ensures care for orphans or children who are left without care of their biological parents until the moment child can return to his family or, if it is not possible, is adopted or settled guardianship.
To apply for status of foster family person (one person in couple) have to be between age of 25 till 60 years.
• Orphan’s court can foster child if:
- child’s parents are dead
- child is found
- child’s parents with judgment have lost protection rights
- child’s parents have lost maintenance rights
- child lives in conditions where his health or life is in danger
- conflict situation is aroused between child and parents
- parents lie up.
• How to become foster family?
1. Family or person who wants to become a foster family in orphan’s court (according place of residence) together with documents of personal identity submits special application form and information about state of health.
2. Orphan’s court during one month appraises documents, person’s or family’s household conditions, motivation and ability to bring up child.
3. Orphan’s court gives conclusion about family’s or person’s adequacy to do foster family’s duties.
4. Foster family attends courses for free.
5. 15 days after the end of courses orphan’s court negotiate with family or person to make decision to confer or not foster family’s status.
6. Agreement between foster family and municipality is signed.
• Foster family becomes:
- compensation 70 lats monthly independently on number of children taken in foster family.
- allowance for child’s maintenance (minimum 27 lats monthly) and allowance for clothes and pouf inventory in amount defined by municipality. Instead of allowance it is possible to receive clothes, footwear and other necessary thing for child.
- support and help to solve problems from side municipality’s social worker.
• Ministry for Children and Family Affairs provides free of charge consultations of psychologist, informative and methodological support and training.
